Attorneys For California Businesses

Everything fron Contracts to Lawsuits

Whether you're managing a going concern or starting a business in the State of California, qualified counsel is worth every penny. When you retain a business attorney, you are getting experience from an advisor who has dealt with multiple situations and who has seen firsthand the difficulties and pitfalls that can happen for someone in your situation. In general, big businesses have in-house counsel to advise them on mergers, acquisitions, human resources, labor law, and employee rights. Small businesses, however, do not have the luxury of keeping a lawyer on staff for any amount of time, so they usually hire a lawyer on an as-needed basis.

Unfortunately, litigation is one of the first occasions where a lawyer is retained outside of the initial business formation. In California, especally in the last year, businesses have had to hire attorneys for bankruptcy, most often because a large business owed them a substantial amount of money and defaulted, creating multiple small bankruptcies along the way. Conversely, some businesses have retained counsel to try and collect money (or a portion of it) as part of a liquidaiton. Prior to the wave of business failures, lawyers were hired to defend against slip and fall or personal injury claims. On the job injuries lead to workmen's compensation and other problems, and in these cases a good attorney can defend your rights and prevent your insurance premiums from spiking as a result.

In California, business lawyers can also help you fight fines and criminal sanctions if your business is believed to be acting against the public interest. Given the scope of California business regulations, and the need of states to collect fines to cover budget shortfalls, it is believed that states will be stepping up enforcement of many regulations that have been previously ignored.
